CLIMBING COURSE
Learn real mountain climbing in Jotunheimen National Park
Course Content
The aim of the climbing course is for you to learn enough to start climbing in the mountains without an instructor afterward.
The first part of the course takes place in the charming small village of Lom, where we practice climbing techniques, securing, and rope team procedures.
The second part of the course occurs in the mountains, either in Hurrungane or the area around Galdhøpiggen. Here, you will learn proper mountain climbing along beautiful climbing routes.
At the end of the course, those who wish to do so can try lead climbing under the supervision of an instructor.
Good physical fitness is needed to handle the longer days in the mountain. Most participants have some indoor climbing experience, but joining without prior climbing experience is also fine. If you already have some knowledge, we will adjust the course so that you can learn more.

MONDAY
The meeting time is 7 pm (19:00) PM at Lom Camping.
After the presentation of the course outline, participants, and instructors, the instruction begins. We will introduce the climbing equipment, discuss its applications, and practice knots. We will provide a theoretical overview of the stresses our bodies and equipment may face in the event of a fall, connecting this information with the proper use of the gear.
TUESDAY
The entire day will be spent at the practice area near Tronoberget in Lom.
We begin by top-rope climbing to learn how to use the equipment and practice movement techniques and safety procedures. We will also practice rappelling.
The theory for today will cover the grading system and communication among climbers.
WEDNESDAY
We will also remain at Tronoberget for this day. Today, we will learn about the placement of safety devices, building belay stations, climbing single-pitch routes, practicing rope team procedures, belay station routines, and communication within the rope team.
The teaching for today will cover trip planning and alpine hazards.
We may move to the mountains (Jotunheimen National Park) in the afternoon and establish a tent camp there. If the weather forecast is uncertain, we will stay at Lom Camping for the remainder of the course.
THURSDAY
We are heading into the mountains for climbing. The most likely routes are Dyrhaugsryggen and Store Dyrhaugtind (2147 m), Vesle Galdhøpiggen (2369 m above sea level), and Skeia (2118 m above sea level).
Since weather and conditions determine route choices, it might be possible to consider a different peak on certain courses.
Today’s theory will cover climbing history and ethics.
FRIDAY
This day is dedicated to rock climbing.
We will practice basic techniques for buddy rescue. Participants will also have the opportunity to place protection while lead climbing under the instructor’s guidance.
Today’s teaching will cover organized rescue services and relevant climbing accident first-aid.
SATURDAY
SUNDAY
Sunday has a short schedule: We pack up and head home.
